How often is the ESEM survey conducted? When is the next survey going to be launched? When will the next report be published?
The ESEM collects data on a biannual basis, with the next project cycle running through 2023-2024. The survey will be open to respondents from 11/12 October 2023 through 31 January 2024, and the next report will be published in the autumn of 2024.
What countries are currently covered by the ESEM?

What data does the ESEM collect?
The ESEM collects data on the characteristics (legal, financial, governance, impact) of social enterprises, as well as on the needs and challenges they experience. For more details on specific datapoints, please reference the ESEM reports of 2020-2021 and 2021-2022.

Have you used the same survey questions throughout each cycle of the project?
The questions remained the same for the 2020-2021 and 2021-2022 cycles of the project, but the survey was revised for the 2023-2024 cycle in order to collect more granular data and facilitate more rigorous statistical analyses.
How long does it take to complete the survey?
The survey takes approximately 30 – 45 minutes to complete.
